Accessibility statement
Last updated
The short version. We want every musician to be able to use Capobook, including on stage. The apps, the web app and this website are designed to the Israeli Standard IS 5568, which follows the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 at level AA, and we check them against WCAG 2.1 AA too. Some things still fall short; they're listed below. If anything gets in your way, tell us and we'll help.
What this statement covers
- the website at capobook.com, including /welcome, the blog and these legal pages
- the Capobook web app at capobook.com
- the Capobook apps for iPhone, iPad and Android
- set link pages (capobook.com/s/...)
What we've done
- Screen readers. Buttons, switches and controls have labels for VoiceOver and TalkBack, and a song's chart reads line by line, with each chord before the word it belongs to.
- Text size. Text follows your device's text size setting, up to 200%, and the layout rearranges itself instead of cutting text off.
- Contrast. Text and controls meet AA contrast ratios in every theme: Paper, Evening, Stage and Daylight.
- Touch targets. Every control has a touch area of at least 44 by 44 points (48 on Android), even when it looks smaller.
- Keyboard. On the web, everything can be reached and used with a keyboard, with a visible focus outline. Page turning in Perform works with the arrow keys, Page Down, the space bar or a pedal.
- Hands-free. Pages turn with a Bluetooth pedal, so you don't have to touch the screen.
- Motion. Animations follow your device's "reduce motion" setting.
- Languages. English and Hebrew, with Hebrew laid out right to left.
- Never by colour alone. States are shown with words and shapes, not only with colour.
What still falls short
- PDF songs and scanned photos are images, so a screen reader can't read them. Songs typed, pasted or imported as text can be read.
- Chord diagrams are drawings. The chord name next to each diagram is read out, but the finger positions aren't.
- Freehand drawings on a song can't be read by a screen reader.
- Websites opened through Find online belong to others, and their accessibility is up to them.
- No formal audit yet. We test Capobook ourselves, with VoiceOver, TalkBack, a keyboard, large text and an automated checker. It hasn't yet been audited by an independent accessibility expert. We plan to do this, and to update this statement afterwards.
